What belongs on an invoice
The exact rules differ by country, but a professional invoice almost always states:
- Your business name and address, and your client's
- A unique invoice number and the issue date
- Each item with a clear description, quantity and unit price
- The tax rate and amount — or the reason no tax is charged
- The total due, the due date, and how to pay
One example: German small businesses under §19 UStG charge no VAT but must say so on the invoice — the notes field is the place for that sentence. This page is tooling, not tax advice; when in doubt, ask your accountant.
